Jenna’s Family Photoshoot | Gunung Payung Beach, Bali

Jenna and her family traveled all the way from the United States to Bali, and like so many visitors, they were drawn to the island’s dramatic coastline. Gunung Payung Beach, tucked away on the Bukit Peninsula and reached by a steep staircase carved into the cliffside, isn’t the easiest beach to get to, but that’s exactly what makes it special. Fewer crowds, untouched white sand, and towering limestone cliffs that frame every shot beautifully.

Unlike some of Bali’s more popular beaches, Gunung Payung offers space and quiet but it comes with a catch: the tide decides when you shoot, not the light. Sessions here often mean planning around low tide rather than golden hour, which is exactly what happened with Jenna’s family. The upside is a beach that’s fully walkable, tide pools that don’t exist at other times of day, and natural elements like cliffs and rock formations to incorporate into shots. It just means photographers need to get creative when the sun isn’t cooperating.
